Cats with this condition must be treated, which may include assisted feeding.

-------------------------------
REHYDRADION RECIPE
2 tablespoons sugar or honey 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon baking soda (bicarbonate of soda). Add to 1 qt/Liter H20Notes: If possible, add 1/2 cup orange juice or some mashed banana to provide potassium.

-------------------------------
For people going in to get their pets: they will of course be very hungry and thirsty. But be careful not to overfeed or water them!!! That can lead to vomiting and too much vomiting can cause problems.
Give them SMALL amounts of room-temp water and food. Preferably dry food because they will be tempted to wolf it down and you don't want them to snork down a large amount of rich food. If you can, put the kibble in a muffin pan (a bit in each cup) or spread out on a cookie sheet or other clean flat surface so they can't eat really fast. Feed every hour or so. Give water more frequently, but hold the bowl and take it away if they are drinking too fast.

Animals need to drink about one cup of water for every ten pounds of body weight every day. Animals who've been dehydrated of course need more, but try not to overwater them and don't give them really cold water!

If they are overheated you can sponge some COOL water on them, especially the belly and head.

If they are in really bad condition they should of course see a vet immediately if possible. If they are too far gone to eat/drink on their own they need to see a vet IMMEDIATELY! And every animal should go in for a check-up as soon as possible.

This doesn't apply to people leaving food for animals they can't catch. Just have to do the best possible for them...

Supplies needed

•collapsible wire pet crates
•box fans
•water proof walkie talkies
•water proof flashlights
•D batteries
•insect repellent
•sunscreen
•waders
•animal medical supplies
•heavy duty gloves for handling wildlife
•containers full of gasoline
•walmart gift cards - to go buy the sanitation supplies they need, and box fans, etc..
•office depot gift cards - for the office supplies needed to get the animals adopted
•towels - nothing fancy - something they can use quickly for pet cleanup rather than doing laundry there is no time or facility for.
•Bottled Water
•Gatorade
•Tarps
or back to their owners.
•small shampoos/conditioners
•egg crate type bedding / padding to sleep on
•camping gear
•soaps
•deodorant
•gas cards /money
•toothbrushes/toothpaste
•t-shirts
•Hand Sanitizer
•Baby wipes / sanitizing wipes
•bug spray

=====VOLUNTEERS====
If you volunteer in any of the disaster areas, you must be self sustaining, and willing to work long hard hours.
